Bill O’Reilly’s Religious Fallacy

I was watching Bill O’Reilly commentate on the news a few nights back when he exposed the fallacy of his religious belief.

Mr. O’Reilly was speaking about the situation of a congressman who has recently been caught up in a scandal in which the congressman was forced to admit he has lied about.

Mr. O’Reilly was expounding on whether or not this congressman should be forgiven of his sin.

Now, there are two types of forgiveness, human and Divine. Mr. O’Reilly raised the element of forgiveness to the Divine level when he suggested that God doesn’t forgive unless we do something.

Do you see the fallacy in his statement?

The majority will not see the fallacy because they have been duped into a system of works righteousness for the forgiveness of their sin.

What Bill O’Reilly was suggesting, in his commentary, is that this congressman sould step down and resign from his position. O’Reilly felt that was the work the congressman needed to engage in to prove his remorse and be forgiven of his wrong doing before the public he represents.

It doesn’t really matter to me what this congressman does. The whole situation exposes an epidemic of social media misuse that has overtaken our nation. This is not what I’m trying to point out.

Here’s what you need to know.

Hebrews 9:22 tells us that there is no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood. The only blood that God will accept for the forgiveness of sin is the blood of the sacrificial Lamb that He sent into our world to pay the price for our sin.

Therefore, forgiveness of sin is not based upon anything I or you can do. Works righteousness has been abolished by faith in what Jesus Christ has done for us.

Mr. O’Reilly has set himself up as this congressman’s judge and has stated that if the congressman resigns he could earn O’Reilly’s forgiveness.

I’m so thankful that God sent His only begotten son that whosoever would believe on Him could have eternal life.

I’ll never be right with the world and I’ll never be able to do enough to get right. But one thing I know for sure, I’m right with God because of what Jesus Christ did for me. This is what faith is all about.

It’s too bad that Bill O’Reilly didn’t offer the congressman the way of salvation. Maybe O’Reilly doesn’t know that forgiveness is by faith in Jesus Christ not in a list of man suggested works.
