What Is the Kingdom?

The kingdom of God is not like a democratic republic where the majority rules. In God’s kingdom only one King rules and the ruler surrounds himself with a court of the most obedient and loyal servants to do the Kings biding. Revelation 4:4 says, Twenty-four thrones surrounded him, and twenty-four elders sat on them. They were all clothed in white and had gold crowns on their heads. These 24 thrones are supposedly held for the 12 Apostles of the New Testament and 12 Prophets from the Old Testament.

Now, in a kingdom there are no elections. There are no political parties. There are no contradictory news channels. There are no congregational meetings to decide if the king’s policies are worth backing. What the king decides is the rule. As king, he has the right to do whatever he desires. What the king desires is what his servants make to happen.

We have a real struggle in our nation submitting to the rule of our leaders. If we don’t like the rules we can go to work to change them. The American church is doing this also. Sin, in the American church, is determined not by the Word of God but by the church’s congressional units. We have taken our democratic style of governing to the church. This has caused a great deal of difficulty within the body of believers. We don’t know who to submit to. Shall we follow the leaders of the church or should we follow the King of the kingdom?

In the book of Judges 21:25 it says, “In those days Israel had no king, so the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.”

Without a King to follow we have a tendency to become the king of our own life and this leads to self-service.

In today’s multi-media society we have the philosophies of the world being cast upon us via television, radio and the internet. The world has chosen to follow shows like the Today Show, The View, Good Morning America, Ellen Degeneres Show, Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil, Steve Harvey, The Talk and let’s not forget The Oprah Winfrey Channel.

The Today Show and Good Morning America bring us the news, weather and sports laced with the philosophies of our day. The others just bend the minds of the viewer to expand their reasoning to include as normal the extremes of our society. We are encouraged not to judge but to be accepting and tolerant of others differing ways.

In a very subtle way these shows are actually forming the mindset of the masses. They use the crowd’s cheers and boos to mold your opinions. Nothing is ever backed up with truth but only public opinion. And you do not want to be against the public in a society led by the masses their empty philosophies.

We need a King. Now we must be cautious when picking a King. We want one that we can persuade to rule in the moment with no concern for future consequences. We need one who will bow to our present wants and desires. One that is persuaded more by opinion than truth. One that is working for us not for our future good.

In 1 Samuel 8:4-7 it says, “4 Finally, the leaders of Israel met at Ramah to discuss the matter with Samuel. 5 “Look,” they told him, “you are now old, and your sons are not like you. Give us a king like all the other nations have.”

6 Samuel was very upset with their request and went to the LORD for advice. 7 “Do as they say,” the LORD replied, “for it is me they are rejecting, not you. They don’t want me to be their king any longer.”

The people of Israel didn’t want the Lord to be their King. At this point the Kingdom has to become a voluntary Kingdom. The only people that will experience the Kingdom of God are those who voluntarily submit to the Lord as their King.

People really don’t want a king. They want a passive servant for their own purpose. They want someone who will hear them out and bend to their whinning.
In the Old Testament we saw God give the Israelites a King. The King that was given was Saul. Saul was a perfect king for man. 1 Samuel 9:1a & 2 says, Kish was a rich, influential man from the tribe of Benjamin.2 His son Saul was the most handsome man in Israel—head and shoulders taller than anyone else in the land. Saul was the type of man men would have chosen to lead.

The problem with Saul was he was not God’s King. God’s king was David. It took 22 years for David to gain the throne of all Israel.

I see this as God showing us that it may take us a while to come around to the King that He has sat on the throne. We must exhaust ourselves with all of our manmade kings and kingdoms before we will be able to voluntarily submit to God’s King.

God is not worried that people are not prepared to bow their knee and confess with their tongue that Jesus is Lord to the Glory of the Father.

See, Jesus is King. He doesn’t have to force it upon people. They may not want Him as King but they will, in the end, bow to His rule and reign over their life.

Now, God has allowed us time to exhaust ourselves seeking all the kingdoms of the world. When we run dry and find that none of them offers what we are truly looking for, maybe then we will look up and realize that our salvation is drawing near.

This morning I want to look at the Kingdom that is shown to us in the New Testament of the Holy Bible. So what is this kingdom that is spoken of in the New Testament? This is the question we are going to look at this morning.

John 18:36

36 Then Jesus answered, “I am not an earthly king. If I were, my followers would have fought when I was arrested by the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.”

The Kingdom in the New Testament is a Kingdom ruled by its King Jesus Who is the Messiah, the Christ, and the Savior.

We must come to understand this because Jesus calls the Kingdom, “My Kingdom”.

Jesus is the possessor of the kingdom. He is the sovereign ruler. He also makes a statement that allows us to know a little more about His Kingdom. Jesus says, “My Kingdom is not of this world”.

Jesus is the King of a kingdom that is of another realm. We know about the kingdoms of this world. They are ruled by our fellow man. They are visible and they are of this realm.

Jesus is now telling us that there is another world or realm that is not of this world. There is a kingdom that I rule over that is other worldly. My kingdom is not of this world.

Most people would say, everything that is of this world is real anything not of this world doesn’t really exist. Those who believe in the Lord also believe that there is a realm not of this world. We are living witnesses that are in this world to testify about this other realm that we are now a part of.

Jesus has opened the door to a new kingdom that He rules over and that is a part of something other than this world. Is this some sort of sci-fi show like the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits? No! This is the reality that the writers of New Testament desire for us to know and encounter.

Jesus is a King of a kingdom that is not like the kingdoms that we have come to know in this world.

Matthew 16:28

28 And I assure you that some of you standing here right now will not die before you see me, the Son of Man, coming in my Kingdom.”

According to this passage it’s a visible kingdom. People can see the kingdom. People of the first century were going to see the kingdom. Can we see the Kingdom today?

I believe that those who believe in, trust in, rely upon, and have placed their faith in Jesus Christ can actually see the kingdom. Although it is other worldly, we are of it and can testify to it. It is spiritual because it is unseen but it is also physical because I a part of it.

This new kingdom is a kingdom that you must be awakened to by looking beyond the world and into the existence of the realm of the spirit. We all know deep within ourselves that there is more to this world than what meets the eye sight. We know that there is an invisible realm that is working in our midst. Jesus tells us that He Lords over all the seen and all the unseen. He is King of God’s Kingdom which is everything that exists seen or unseen.

Matthew 13:40-43

40 “Just as the weeds are separated out and burned, so it will be at the end of the world. 41 I, the Son of Man, will send my angels, and they will remove from my Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil, 42 and they will throw them into the furnace and burn them. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the godly will shine like the sun in their Father’s Kingdom. Anyone who is willing to hear should listen and understand!

Jesus wants us to understand that as King, He is ridding His kingdom of all that causes sin and all who do evil. So it is easy to see that His kingdom is not of this world. Our world is filled with sin and evil. So we must come to understand that this world is not the true kingdom but the battle ground where the war of separation is being battled. This world is the threshing floor, the separator, the gleaner that sifts the wheat from the chaff.

Jesus tells us that at the end of the world all the separation will be complete and His kingdom will be cleansed of all that causes sin and all who do evil.

This separation begins with an understanding of who Jesus is.

Matthew 16:13-20

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”
15 Then he asked them, “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John,‍ because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. 18 Now I say to you that you are Peter,‍‍ and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell‍‍ will not conquer it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you lock on earth will be locked in heaven, and whatever you open on earth will be opened in heaven.” 20 Then he sternly warned them not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

Revelation knowledge, Peter had it. Peter knew that Jesus was the Son of the living God. Peter knew that there was a realm of existence that transcended that which is physical and he knew that Jesus had come from that realm and he knew that Jesus was the King of that realm.

Jesus acknowledged Peter’s understanding as being a revelation and not something he had learned from any human being.

How could you ever learn this from a person? Just because someone tells you that Jesus is Lord, Master, Ruler, King and Sovereign God, doesn’t mean you know it. You’ve heard it but do you really believe it? Well I read it, I heard it, I think it might be so. But do you know it to be true?

Revelation knowledge will hold you up and nothing can take that away. It can’t be beat out of you, it can’t be stoned out of you, it can’t be crucified out of you, it can’t be beheaded out of you. You either know it or you don’t. If you know it you can live face anything without ever losing that which has been revealed to you.

Jesus continues by telling Peter that it is upon the rock of revelation that He is going to build his church. His new kingdom has a foundation and it is going to be built and not even hell is going to be able to stop His kingdom from becoming a reality.

Jesus then gives the keys to the kingdom to Peter and the other disciples. What are the keys that will open and lock the doors of heaven? They are the message of Jesus Christ and His revelation to those who believe.

So why did Jesus tell them not to spread the news of Him being the Messiah? It wasn’t yet time. The message was not complete. The work had not been finished.

Paradise was not yet opened and ready to receive citizens because the blood of redemption had not yet flowed.

The King cannot rule the kingdom until He has ascended to the throne of power. Once Jesus took His place on the thrown the Kingdom was ready. This all took place during the lives of those who heard Jesus say, “And I assure you that some of you standing here right now will not die before you see me, the Son of Man, coming in my Kingdom.”

So to answer the question, “What is the Kingdom?”, we can see that it is a kingdom with a King Who is Jesus. It is a kingdom that is not of this world. It is a kingdom that can only be visible to those to whom it has been revealed to. It is also a kingdom that is locked to those who do not know or acknowledge the King. The Kingdom is unlocked to those who know that the key that opens the way is Jesus and His work at the cross.

As we close today we need to look at one more passage,

Revelation 5:9-10

9 And they sang a new song with these words: “You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were killed, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10And you have caused them to become God’s kingdom and his priests. And they will reign‍‍ on the earth.”

The Kingdom of God is a present reality. The Kingdom citizens are reigning on the earth. We may not be kings, presidents, or rulers but we are the priest of God’s kingdom. The priests of God hold a higher position in God’s sight than the highest leader of man’s world. Our job is to tell others about the Kingdom of God so they can make informed decisions about where to place their allegiance.

You have two choices. They are either the kingdom of this world or the Kingdom of God. Over the next few weeks I pray you will be able to make a very well informed decision.

The Kingdom of the world is available to every one of us who has been born into this realm.

The Kingdom of God is available to those who have been reborn into a spiritual reality due to being ransomed by the blood of the King’s Son.

To all who belong to this world there is only one way to get on the narrow road that leads to the Kingdom of God. The way is through the Son of God Who came to make the way for us to come into God’s Kingdom.

Are you prepared today to submit to the King’s rule and reign over your life?

Becoming A Kingdom Citizen

Last week we were introduced to eight kingdoms. I would like to do a short review of these kingdoms.

In the beginning we saw the Garden Kingdom that God gave to Adam. Due to his sin he was banished from the Garden Kingdom and there was a flaming sword placed at the entrance to keep anyone from reentering this kingdom.

After Adam’s excommunication we saw that Adam was the father of the Kingdom of Sin. This Kingdom was destroyed by God through a flood that recreated the entire earth. Even though the kingdom of sin was destroyed every person born into this world is born of Adam. This makes them a citizen of the kingdom of sin and they must be redeemed if they are going to live in God’s true Kingdom.

Noah and his family were saved through the flood by obeying God’s instruction to build an ark of salvation. After exiting the ark Noah was the father of a new kingdom. This kingdom became a Kingdom of Self-righteousness. God confused the people of this kingdom and they began to migrate to all parts of the world to build kingdoms of their own. People who are trying to enter God’s kingdom by way of their own self-righteousness are confused as to how God has called us back to Himself.

Then God spoke to Abram who God renamed Abraham. In Abraham we saw the Kingdom of Faith established. This kingdom, like the others with exception of the Garden Kingdom, is still expanding and people who are coming to belief in the Lord and His true kingdom are being admitted.

In Jacob we saw the birth of a Nation Kingdom. The nation of Israel is still with us today. They believe they are God’s chosen nation but many of the Israelites no longer believe in the way that God has established for people to come back to Him by faith in their King.

In Moses we saw the Kingdom of Law established. Many people today are quick to follow the Law and through the Law they believe they will enter the true kingdom but the law shows us that we need a Savior to enter God’s true Kingdom. So we must come to God by faith in the way He has called us to come. Following the Law is good and those who live by faith will follow the Law but following the Law is not the way of salvation.

In David we see the King’s Kingdom. The King’s kingdom was a kingdom established upon lines in the sand. It was defended and expanded by force. Warfare was the way to maintain and increase the kingdom. Many are still involved in this activity today. It seems to be the way of this world. Due to sin we have a tendency to set ourselves up as kings and try to force others to be a part of our own little kingdom.

The only kingdom that seems to be enduring is the Kingdom of Faith that was looking beyond this earthly realm for its fulfillment.

None of the other kingdoms seem to fulfill the true desire of the people. They all seem to be flawed at some point and leave people disappointed. Our world’s kingdoms all seem to fall short of what we are really seeking. There must be something out there somewhere that is the fulfillment of the lost paradise that always seems to be just out of reach.

I believe this was what Abraham was looking forward to. He desired a kingdom not of this world. He was looking forward to a promised land that was better than this world had to offer.

So let’s look a little deeper at Jesus’ Kingdom which is the Spiritual Kingdom.

I have in the past used an illustration that I would like to expand upon as I put it before you once again today.

I have tried, at times, to get everyone to imagine a huge walled city. The city was guarded at every entrance to make sure that only those who knew the ways of the King and were willing to submit to the King of the kingdom could access the Kingdom.
Now, this Kingdom is available to all who would come. Everyone who is seeking rest and relief from all the other kingdoms of the world has been given a verbal invitation to come to the King who has established the perfect kingdom.

The catch is you must submit to the King and His ways and plans. This King will not allow any rebels to enter His kingdom. You must be willing to trust and obey the King following Him by faith.

Now, this King has offered to pay the price to redeem you from the king of your present kingdom. It doesn’t matter which kingdom you are presently residing in. If you desire your freedom and want to exit your present kingdom and enter into His, He will make the provision for your redemption.

The only requirement is that you must submit your will, your ways, your desires and wants to the King. You must come empty handed fully trusting the King.

Now, this King knows your true heart. He knows why you are coming to His Kingdom. He knows what you are truly seeking. If you are seeking Him, His Kingdom and His righteousness, He will pay the price and command the guards to let you enter His gates. If you are seeking for self, there is a kingdom that already exists for you and it is not this King’s Kingdom. You will be forced to stay outside the Kingdom with the dogs and all who will not submit to the King.

The only way to enter this kingdom is by knowing, following and trusting the King, submitting your person to the King, and by faith, following the King’s Rule and Reign over your life and His Kingdom.

Are you sure you want to enter the King’s Kingdom?

I never want to force anyone into this kingdom. I never want to use emotions to pull your heart strings to get you to make a commitment to something you don’t really want. I do not want to deceive anyone into make a impulsive decision that they may later regret.

I want to inform you fully so when you decide to surrender your life to Jesus as lord you will know what you are doing.

Matthew 16:25-26

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?

American Christianity falls way short of Biblical Christianity because we, in America, do not understand Kingdoms that are lorded over by their King.

I was reading an article a few days back where the writer stated that we are co-rulers with Christ. The writer said that we needed to share more and more of our rule over our lives with Jesus. “How much of your personal kingdom is being co-ruled with Him, or are you keeping certain areas under your exclusive dominion? The more you let Him rule with you over all aspects of your health, finances and welfare the more you will reign victorious over every issue in your life.”

I know that this sounds very Christian in our society today. But I must ask who is King? Who is Lord? Who is Master? Who is Ruler? Who is Head? Who sits on the throne? Who purchased you at a high price? Who saved you from eternal destruction? Who gave you this new opportunity? Who is it that is God?

According to this writer I am the king of my own destiny, lord of my own life and ruler of my own domain, then, when I allow Jesus to come alongside and rule with me, I will become victorious. Do you see the blasphemy in this thought process?

We are so self-center and so prideful that we think we are inviting the King of kings and Lord of lords into our lives. We, for some reason, believe that we are on the throne of power. Then we think we are pretty special and deserve God’s recognition when we invite King Jesus to share in the rule of our life.

If this wasn’t such a serious issue I would be on the floor laughing at the thought process of the person who wrote this article.

Isaiah 14:12-15

12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O shining star, son of the morning! You have been thrown down to the earth, you who destroyed the nations of the world. 13 For you said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north. 14 I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the Most High.’ 15 Instead, you will be brought down to the place of the dead, down to its lowest depths.

This is a passage that points to Satan. He was the one who wanted to raise his throne above the Lord’s.

Isn’t this what we have done?

Then we invite the Lord, the true King, to come up to our throne and rule with us. He can be our helper, counselor, comforter and guide but we don’t want to kneel at His throne and ask Him to send us His Helper, Counselor, Comforter and Guide.

Now let’s go back to the thought of entering God’s Kingdom.

Matthew 7:13-14

13 “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14 But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

As we continue to grow in our understanding of the Kingdom of God this morning we are told by the King Himself that the entrance into His Kingdom is narrow. In other words, there is a broad road that seems right to the masses but it will not lead to the Kingdom of God. The road the King will be calling us to travel, to enter His Kingdom, is narrow and it leads to the desired goal.

A narrow road is a road that needs to be navigated carefully and traveled slowly.
I happen to be one who desires to enter the Kingdom of God. I am also one who wants others to enter the Kingdom with me. Due to my desires, and the knowledge that the entrance is narrow, I want to know that what I teach is accurate to the Scriptures we have been given. I want to travel this road cautiously. I want to go slow enough that we don’t put ourselves in danger of accidentally crashing on our journey.

I will be presenting a great amount of Scripture on the subject of the Kingdom of God. I feel this is the only way for us to have the most accurate information as we make our decisions about God’s Kingdom.

Before we go any deeper I want to relay an understanding of kingdoms to you from our world’s viewpoint.

According to Webster’s dictionary a kingdom is, “a politically organized community or major territorial unit having a monarchical form of government headed by a king or queen.”
(a person who reigns over a kingdom or empire as a sovereign ruler)
“a realm or region in which something is dominant”
(such as the king) “an area or sphere in which one holds a preeminent position” (such as God)”

The archaic word for kingdom is KINGSHIP. This would refer to a government ruled by a king

According to Britannica’s Encyclopedia the kingdom of God is,

In Christianity, the spiritual realm over which God reigns as king, or the eventual fulfillment of God’s will on earth.

Although rare in pre-Christian Jewish literature, the idea of God as king was fundamental to Judaism, and Jewish ideas on the kingdom of God most likely shaped New Testament usage. The term is often used in the New Testament, and it was a central theme in the preaching of John the Baptist and Jesus. Theologians differ as to whether Jesus implied that the kingdom had arrived in his person or whether it was expected as a future event. Christian orthodoxy now holds that the kingdom has been partially realized by the presence of the church in the world and that it will be fully realized after the Last Judgment.

Those of us who have been raised all of our lives in the democratic republic of the United States have a very difficult time comprehending Kingdoms and Kingship.
We the people are not lorded over but we establish our own governing rule.

We, in the United States, have a form of democracy where the majority rule through elections. This is totally foreign to a Kingship or a governing order ran by a sovereign leader such as a King.

A Kingdom is ruled by a King. What the king says is the rule and the citizens of the kingdom either submit to the King’s rule, acknowledging the King as lord, or they disobey the King’s rule and risk the wrath of the King, or they revolt against the King and try to overthrow his rule and take the kingdom from him.

When we consider the Kingdom of God in this way who is going to try to overthrow God? Who is going to disobey God and risk the consequences of His wrath? Shouldn’t everyone submit to God and acknowledge Him as Lord?

Your first and quickest answer to this line of reasoning would be yes we should. My next question would be why don’t we?

This is a serious question. Most of us don’t submit to the King in our personal lives. Many churches or denominations have taken stands against the King and His Kingdom. As we all know the world doesn’t even acknowledge that God is the Sovereign King so our world exists in rebellion against its own Creator.

Now, we the people of the democratic society desire to take our style of government into the Kingdom of God. This will not work. When we disagree with the King’s rules we do not have the right to form a group and lobby for a change. We do not have the power of the people to vote down that which the King has declared. We either submit to the King’s rule or risk being dismissed from the Kingdom.

God, in all His wisdom, knew that everyone would not submit to His rule. So God has designated a place for the citizens of His kingdom to work out their decision. This place is known to us as the kingdom of the world. God has given each of us time in which to decide if we are willing to submit to the King and live peacefully in His Kingdom or decide to disobey and revolt and receive the consequences of our decision.

The Kingdom of the world is the battle ground. We have been given time to try and test our beliefs on the battle ground of the world. The King’s desire is for us to submit to His rule and reign over our lives. The world’s philosophy is every man for himself. As we make our decision to submit to the King we then must journey the rest of our life on the narrow road being very cautious of the enemy who desires to ambush us with the world’s philosophy.

The Kingdom of God is a Kingdom ruled by a Sovereign King. This King is Lord overall and the citizens will either submit to His rule or be thrown out of the Kingdom. We have been given time to make our decision. Since we do not know the time we need to be making an informed decision now.

Acts 1:1-3

Dear Theophilus:
In my first book‍‍ I told you about everything Jesus began to do and teach 2 until the day he ascended to heaven after giving his chosen apostles further instructions from the Holy Spirit. 3 During the forty days after his crucifixion, he appeared to the apostles from time to time and proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. On these occasions he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.

Luke was the writer of the book of Luke. He is also the writer of the book of Acts. Luke was interested in the accurate recording of Jesus’ life and the beginning of the church Jesus had established.

Over the next few weeks I want to look at the point that Luke says Jesus always seemed to mention. That point is The Kingdom of God.

Luke wrote in Acts 1:3 On these occasions he talked to them about the Kingdom of God. When Jesus appeared to the apostles He talked with them about the Kingdom of God. This tells me that the Kingdom of God was on the heart of Jesus. Jesus wanted His apostles to know about it, understand it, and spread the message of the Kingdom of God.

The King of the Kingdom desired to tell His messengers the Good News of the newly established Kingdom. He wanted them to know firsthand what He had to offer so His messengers could begin spreading the message about the king and His Kingdom.

The Kingdom of God has been placed on my heart of late. Over the next few weeks I want to investigate the Kingdom of God. I want to answer some questions, Who makes up the Kingdom? What is the Kingdom? What is the Kingdom like? Where is the Kingdom located? When will we see the Kingdom come? Why is the Kingdom so important? And, How can a person be a part of the Kingdom?

At some point in this series I’m also going to look at kingdom knights and what it would be like to be a knight in the Kingdom of God.

Seven Men & Their Seven Kingdoms

A couple of years ago while praying about messages I received an eye opening revelation.

God allowed me to see some of the important men of the Bible and the Kingdoms that they established.

We don’t credit some of these men with establishing kingdoms. But when we look at the outworking of their actions we will see that they were the founding fathers of certain communities or societies that I am going to put forth as kingdoms.

The seven men whom we will see in this message today are Adam, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, David and Jesus.

The kingdoms that these men brought forth were Sin Kingdom, Righteous Kingdom, Faith Kingdom, Nation Kingdom, Law Kingdom, King’s Kingdom and a Spiritual Kingdom.

This was the revelation that had been built throughout the week. Now it’s time to put the Scriptural text to the revelation. I know, the Scripture should bring forth the revelation. And I believe you will see that it has as it really does extend from years of Biblical study. It did, though, take a mighty nudge from God for me to see this Scriptural revelation in this manner.

Now, we know that it was Adam’s sin that resulted in him and his wife being banned from the Garden Kingdom that God had established for them. The Garden Kingdom would now be closed to sinful man.

Genesis 3:23-24

23 So the LORD God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made. 24 After sending them out, the LORD God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

Now, Adam and Eve had been sent out of the Garden and they would establish a kingdom that would be an extension of their sin.

As the parent’s sin, was extended to the following generations, we see that their son Cain killed his brother Able. This extension of sin to the following generations, will bring this Sin Kingdom, that was established by Adam, to its eventual end.

Genesis 6:5-7

5 The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. 6 So the LORD was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. 7 And the LORD said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.”

Adam’s Kingdom, which was a kingdom built upon the result of Adam’s sin, could not prevail because the wages of sin leads to death.

The second kingdom that will now be established is Noah’s Kingdom of Righteousness.

Genesis 6:9-13

9 This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. 10 Noah was the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence. 12 God observed all this corruption in the world, for everyone on earth was corrupt. 13 So God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth!

Now, Noah was instructed to build the ark. Once it was completed and his family entered it, God destroyed the earth as it was known. When Noah and his family exited the ark they were the people who would begin a new kingdom.

I would like to put before you the idea that this kingdom was Noah’s Kingdom and it was a kingdom built upon Noah’s righteousness.

Noah followed the commands of God. After leaving the boat he worshiped the Lord with the proper sacrificial offering and God blessed him with a covenantal promise.

Noah’s family then began to, once again, populate the earth.

Genesis 10:32

32 These are the clans that descended from Noah’s sons, arranged by nation according to their lines of descent. All the nations of the earth descended from these clans after the great flood.

Since the kingdom was built upon the originator’s righteousness, we should expect this new kingdom to reveal itself as a different style of kingdom from the one established upon Adam’s sin.

Genesis 11:1-2

At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words. 2 As the people migrated to the east, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there.

Genesis 11:5-7

5 But the LORD came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building. 6 “Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them! 7 Come, let’s go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other.”

This might seem a bit strange. Why would God confuse a kingdom of people who were united and seemingly getting along and working together?

I believe there are two reasons. One is their righteous kingdom had become a self-righteous kingdom. See the people had forgotten their God. They were building a temple to themselves and their unified ability. The people were overlooking the One who had given them all they had. God deserved their worship and thanksgiving for all he had supplied them with.

The second reason was God wanted the people to populate the whole earth and as long as they were getting along they would stay together. God had recreated the earth and wanted humanity to see all of his handiwork and all the blessings that were available to them throughout the rest of the world.

Now, 292 years after the flood had receded, according to the genealogies found in Genesis chapter 11, Terah and his wife gave birth to a son named Abram.

Genesis 12:1-9

The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. 2 I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”

4 So Abram departed as the LORD had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. 5 He took his wife, Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all his wealth—his livestock and all the people he had taken into his household at Haran—and headed for the land of Canaan. When they arrived in Canaan, 6 Abram traveled through the land as far as Shechem. There he set up camp beside the oak of Moreh. At that time, the area was inhabited by Canaanites.

7 Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” And Abram built an altar there and dedicated it to the LORD, who had appeared to him. 8 After that, Abram traveled south and set up camp in the hill country, with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. There he built another altar and dedicated it to the LORD, and he worshiped the LORD. 9 Then Abram continued traveling south by stages toward the Negev.

I’m going to call this Abraham’s Kingdom of Faith. It is a blessed kingdom. And it is a kingdom that will be established by trusting in, relying upon and believing God.

Hebrews 11:8-16

8 It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. 9 And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith—for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise. 10 Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God.

11 It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old. She believed that God would keep his promise. 12 And so a whole nation came from this one man who was as good as dead—a nation with so many people that, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore, there is no way to count them.

13 All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. 14 Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. 15 If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. 16 But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

Abraham’s kingdom of Faith was never truly realized in his lifetime. He went to his grave believing beyond what he was ever able to see. Abraham’s Kingdom of faith is still with us today. Many are still trusting in, relying upon and believing God for the eternal kingdom promised to Abraham.

Now Abraham’s grandson Jacob is going to set up the Nation Kingdom.

Genesis 28:10-17

10 Meanwhile, Jacob left Beersheba and traveled toward Haran. 11 At sundown he arrived at a good place to set up camp and stopped there for the night. Jacob found a stone to rest his head against and lay down to sleep. 12 As he slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from the earth up to heaven. And he saw the angels of God going up and down the stairway.

13 At the top of the stairway stood the LORD, and he said, “I am the LORD, the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants. 14 Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! They will spread out in all directions—to the west and the east, to the north and the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants. 15 What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.”

16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!” 17 But he was also afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God, the very gateway to heaven!”

Jacob was now going to be the father of a nation of people who would inhabit the land promised to his grandfather Abraham.

This promise did not come immediately. But God was true to His word and blessed Jacob with a new name. He would now be known as Israel.

Genesis 32:24-28

24 This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break. 25 When the man saw that he would not win the match, he touched Jacob’s hip and wrenched it out of its socket. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for the dawn is breaking!”

But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
27 “What is your name?” the man asked.
He replied, “Jacob.”
28 “Your name will no longer be Jacob,” the man told him. “From now on you will be called Israel, because you have fought with God and with men and have won.”

The Nation of Israel was now born. This would be an earthly kingdom that would struggle with God and man for the rest of time as we know it.

Genesis 37:1

So Jacob settled again in the land of Canaan, where his father had lived as a foreigner.
Jacob’s Nation Kingdom, known as Israel, ran upon some rather difficult times and ended up moving to the land of Egypt where they were saved from the severe drought by Jacob’s son Joseph.

This salvation led the Nation of Israel into slavery to Egypt. Israel as a nation looked to foreign aid for their salvation instead of trusting the Lord their God. Now they are in need of a deliverer. God knew they would look to Egypt for salvation so He prepared their salvation by raising up Joseph at the right time.

The next nation that we will identify is the Nation of Law.

Moses was called by God to go and lead the nation of Israel out of their Egyptian bondage and back, once again, to their earthly promised land.

Many great events happened in the midst of this delivery but once free from their slave master Israel was given the Law of God.

Exodus 19:3-9a

3 Then Moses climbed the mountain to appear before God. The LORD called to him from the mountain and said, “Give these instructions to the family of Jacob; announce it to the descendants of Israel: 4 ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. You know how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me. 6 And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation.’ This is the message you must give to the people of Israel.”

7 So Moses returned from the mountain and called together the elders of the people and told them everything the LORD had commanded him. 8 And all the people responded together, “We will do everything the LORD has commanded.” So Moses brought the people’s answer back to the LORD.
9 Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will come to you in a thick cloud, Moses, so the people themselves can hear me when I speak with you. Then they will always trust you.”

God then appeared to Moses and gave him the Ten Commandments and the rest of the laws of God.

These laws were to be the foundation for the Israel’s Nation of Law. Moses was to bring forth the Laws so that the people would have a foundation from which to build their nation. They were about to go back and take the land promised and God wanted them to have a pattern by which they could assemble a community and hold together a nation.

The Nation of Law, like the nations before, soon began to struggle because they worshiped the law over the Law Giver. God was soon forgotten and difficulty came once again to the Promised Land.

The people now wanted a king to lead them. They were not satisfied any longer following the Lord their God. They wanted a man to lead them.

The first king, Saul, would not obey the Lord so God sought out a man after the heart of God and raised David to the throne of Israel’s earthly kingdom.

1 Chronicles 12:38

38 All these men came in battle array to Hebron with the single purpose of making David the king over all Israel. In fact, everyone in Israel agreed that David should be their king.

Now that the King’s Kingdom has been instituted and David is the Lord’s earthly king, we are going to see that this is a kingdom of force. It’s a kingdom held by war and defended by the king’s warriors.

Sin also enters the kingdom and the generations to follow would be affected greatly by sin and warfare.
So far we have looked at six types of kingdoms.

In Adam we saw the Kingdom of Sin. In Noah we saw the Kingdom of Self-righteousness. In Abraham we saw the Kingdom of Faith. In Jacob we saw the birth of a Nation Kingdom. In Moses we saw the Kingdom of Law. In David we see the King’s Kingdom.

The only kingdom that seems to be enduring is the Kingdom of Faith that was looking beyond this earthly realm for its fulfillment.

Adam’s nation was destroyed, Noah’s nation was confused, Jacob’s nation was captured into slavery, Moses’ nation forgot their God, David’s nation was only held together by force. Abraham’s nation of faith was still seeking and searching for a land not of this realm.

If you were to look through the different kingdoms that we have had revealed to us so far, I believe you can see the many different kingdoms of our world today.

There are kingdoms built upon sin, self-righteousness, kings and force, some that exist upon foreign aid and are actually enslaved, there are nations of people joined together based upon nationality that exclude others from their nation, and then there are the kingdoms built upon laws.

None of these nations seem to fulfill the true desire of the people.

Now let’s look at Jesus’ Kingdom it’s the Spiritual Kingdom.

First we must understand that Jesus’ Kingdom is not of this world.

John 18:36

36 Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.”

Unlike the King’s Kingdom of David, this kingdom does not come by force. It cannot be fought for or defended as an earthly kingdom is defended or advanced.

Jesus’ Kingdom comes from another realm. It does not have an earthly or physical reality like King David’s kingdom. You don’t enter this kingdom by physical birth or submission to an earthly king. Your birth is of the spirit and your King is not physically present on this planet we call earth.

You belong to a kingdom and you are subject to the King of this kingdom but it’s not really a visible kingdom. This kingdom is an inner kingdom of the heart that exists external of this realm. You have the kingdom within you and you are seated in heaven yet you still reside on the earth. This puts you in a very strange position. You are a duel citizen yet your heavenly citizenship is of a greater importance and responsibility.

You seem to be a foreigner, stranger and alien in the land in which you reside. You sights are set on things higher. You desire more than this world has to offer. You are looking for the paradise that has been lost and most people around you are just trying to make the best of the world they live in. You want more and can’t seem to grasp what it is that you long for.

Revelation 5:5

5 But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

As we see here the Kingdom that is not of this world is lorded over by the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. This Lion is Jesus Himself.

Jesus was also known as the shepherd of God’s people.

John 10:11

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.

Jesus laid down His life for His friends.

1 Corinthians 5:7b

Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.

Jesus had come to fulfill all. He is the ultimate leader and King. He was the Lion, the Lamb, the Shepherd, the Door, the Gate, the Bread, the Way, the Truth, the Life, The Redeemer, the Lord, the Savior, the Deliverer, the Sacrifice, the Master, the Protector, the Provider, the Sustainer, the Beginning, the End, the Cornerstone, the Capstone, the High Priest, the Head, the Light, the Creator, the Holy One, the Solid Rock, the Wonderful Counselor, the Wisdom of God, the Almighty One and the only True God.

You could not ask for a greater King than King Jesus. No other kingdom head was able to be for the people there all in all. This is why all the kingdoms of men fall short. Only Abraham’s Kingdom of Faith continued to look forward to what God had in store for His people.

Hebrews 12:2

2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

As you can see Jesus is showing us the fulfillment of His Spiritual Kingdom.

It’s a Kingdom of Faith in Him. He is the King of the Kingdom. Yet, His kingdom is not a kingdom of force that must be defended by warriors. His Kingdom is a kingdom of peace and rest from all the struggle of this world. His kingdom is the fulfillment of the desire that has been placed upon our hearts for something greater than this world has to offer.

Revelation 21:5-7

5 And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” 6 And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. 7 All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.

As we move through this passage we see that the blessing of God comes through Christ also.

So, what is the victory? The victory is won when we are able to see past this world to the reality of a kingdom that has been offered to us that is beyond all that is available here on this earth. We are victorious when we give up the fight and begin to look forward to the coming kingdom. We are victorious when we lay down our carnal weapons of warfare and begin to live for another realm. We are victorious when we surrender to the true King and quit trying to conquer the world for ourselves. We are victorious when we begin to live by faith in what we can’t see while we live in this fallen world that we do see. We are victorious when we begin to pray for and work to lead others out of their bondage to this world and to freedom in Christ and His coming Kingdom. We’re victorious when we give up our life in this world and cling to the one who has offered true life.

That doesn’t mean that we don’t still live in this realm for the time we have left. We still must work to eat. We still must follow the laws of our governing leaders. But we do all this with our sight set on that which is ahead and not on the world around us.

This world is coming to nothing. All the worldly kingdoms will come to an end. The only kingdom that will endure throughout eternity is the Kingdom of God.

Matthew 5:17-20

17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19 So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
20 “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!

Once you begin to live for the Kingdom of God, everything else begins to fall into place.

See, far too many live for the world and call upon God to help them establish their own kingdom here.

This is not the plan of God. Jesus went away to prepare a place for us. He is going to come back and take His own to be with Him for all eternity.

What are you living for?

John 4:21-24

21 Jesus declared, “Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

It’s time to look up for our redemption is drawing near. It’s time to start living out the truth of God’s call to a higher kingdom. It’s time to draw people to the Lord and His ways and stop trying to save the world for the world’s sake.

Matthew 15:24-28

24 Then Jesus said to the woman, “I was sent only to help God’s lost sheep—the people of Israel.”
25 But she came and worshiped him, pleading again, “Lord, help me!”
26 Jesus responded, “It isn’t right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs.”
27 She replied, “That’s true, Lord, but even dogs are allowed to eat the scraps that fall beneath their masters’ table.”
28 “Dear woman,” Jesus said to her, “your faith is great. Your request is granted.” And her daughter was instantly healed.

This woman, of great faith, had realized that even though she was not a Jew she knew who the Master of the Kingdom was and is. She knew Jesus to be Lord. In this simple acknowledgement life came back to her family.

Matthew 6:33 N.I.V.

33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Are you seeking the right kingdom? Are you chasing after the righteousness of God? Are you living beyond the world that you presently reside in?

John 16:33

33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

In Adam we saw the Kingdom of Sin. Jesus takes away the sin of the world.

In Noah we saw the Kingdom of Self-righteousness. Jesus comes to give us His righteousness.

In Abraham we saw the Kingdom of Faith. Jesus stands as the object of our faith.

In Jacob we saw the birth of a Nation Kingdom. Jesus has brought all the nations of the world together in Himself.

In Moses we saw the Kingdom of Law. Jesus came to fulfill the Law.

In David we see the King’s Kingdom. Jesus is the King of kings and now occupies on the eternal throne of David.

Jesus’ Kingdom is what we are all looking for.

Are you ready to commit your life to the King and His Kingdom?

Sailing the Seven C’s

I had a memorable dream a couple of years back. In the dream, I was talking with a young woman about Christ. She, like many of today’s younger people, had never been raised in the church. She had never heard any of the stories that most of the older people in the church were raised on.

So, when I tried to talk to her about Christ, I was having a great amount of difficulty getting her to understand what I was trying to express to her.

Once I realized the problem, which exposed the reality that she really had no clue about what I was trying to get her to understand, I took her back to the very beginning.

See, I wanted her to understand her need for Christ and what He has done for her. If a person doesn’t understand the beginning, they won’t understand God’s revealed plan or their need for salvation through a Savior.

I really believe that the church of the 21st century has missed this major detail. We still assume that everyone knows the Genesis stories of the Bible. We still assume that children are being taught and raised on the stories of Scripture. The truth is, the vast majority of people under the age of 50 are clueless when it comes to what the Bible really teaches. If they are under 40 it is highly unlikely that they have ever been taught anything at all about the first book of the Bible.

Today’s world teaches that humans are basically good, that we are all God’s children and if we just live a good life while attempting to improve our behavior, we will receive a good afterlife. This leads most people to have a Unitarian belief that everyone with the exception of the extremely horrible go to heaven when they pass from this life.

This ideology has no basis in Scripture but it keeps the masses from seeking the Lord their God and desiring to be right with Him.

See, if I’m basically good and can learn to be better, I don’t need salvation, all I needs is the right teaching and training. I need to find someone who will meet me where I’m at, formulate a training method that will interest me, then assist me as I learn to be good enough to achieve this heavenly reward at the end of life that is promised to everyone that puts forth at least some effort toward being good. And we all believe that the person who has just passed away was a good person, they had some flaws but don’t we all. So, the dead person must be in a better place now based upon my personal judgment of their life.

With this type of thought process being the foundation for most people’s belief system, we can clearly see why it is so difficult to introduce people to or bring people to belief in Christ Jesus for their salvation.

So, what the world offers is not salvation. It is not how we get right with the Creator God of Scripture. This is the mindset that is keeping a multitude of people lost in their sin and unbelief. This is even keeping those who attend churches today from receiving the salvation that they need to be right with God.

I have watched the children’s Sunday School material that passes through our church. Most of it never lays out the foundations of the Christian faith. Even if it did, the children have already been taught so much of the world’s philosophy that what we would teach them from Genesis would sound totally absurd. I believe that’s why it has been pushed aside. How hard is it to get Sunday School teachers to teach things to questioning kids that they don’t believe themselves?

I would like to share a teaching and training lesson with you this morning so you can be better equipped to share with those in your life that may not be products of Christian Sunday School or regular attenders of Vacation Bible School when they were young. You may want to incorporate this teaching into the lives of your kids and grandkids. You also may find it to be the very teaching you need to receive the salvation you’ve been searching for.

Acts 17:22-34

22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.

24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27 God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by man’s design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.”

32 When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, “We want to hear you again on this subject.” 33 At that, Paul left the Council. 34 A few men became followers of Paul and believed. Among them was Dionysius, a member of the Areopagus, also a woman named Damaris, and a number of others.

Paul was speaking to a group of Gentiles or Greeks. These people were not Jewish people brought up from birth in the ways of their religion passed down to them by the prophets of God. They were very religious, highly superstitious, well learned, filled with great knowledge and philosophies but everything they held to was empty and false because it was not based upon the true God of the Scriptures.

This group of Greek individuals was much like speaking to the normal American today. They have a form of religion. They have a multitude of teachers and a huge amount of teaching material available to them. They hold to a plethora of beliefs that are not based in God’s Word and yet, they, for the most part, believe they greatly exceed the requirements of God for a great and wonderful afterlife if this heaven thing really is true.

So, you can probably tell, when speaking to a person of the world, they are not all that interested in your beliefs because they have a way that seems right to them and since truth is relative to the person who believes it, they are alright because what they believe is their truth and who are we to doubt their sincerity.

It’s a joke. It’s a blinding of the minds of those who refuse to believe. They hold to their empty philosophies never comprehending that they have no hope because the God or whatever they follow, is not true.

So, how do we reach them?

First we must, as Paul did, start at the beginning.

Creation

As we begin we are going to find that we are up against a very difficult situation. We live in a world that doesn’t believe in a Creator God. They don’t believe in the Biblical creation. If they do believe in creation they don’t believe in a literal six day creation set before us in the Scripture. So, at the very starting point of our discussion we must understand who we are speaking with.

The Scriptures teach us…

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

John 1:1-4

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.

Exodus 20:11

For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

Exodus 31:17

It is a permanent sign of my covenant with the people of Israel. For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day he stopped working and was refreshed.

Psalm 33:6

The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.

Hebrews 11:3

By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.

Acts 17:24

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.

Colossians 1:15-17

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.

Genesis 1:31

Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day.

This is the starting foundation of the Word of God. If you cannot bring people to belief in a Creator God, they do not and will not need a Savior. If they do not believe that everything was good before man’s fall, it’s going to be very difficult for them to see the need for a deliverer to save them from the curse.

The reason we need a Savior is because we are created beings that have not lived up to the standard of the One who created us.

If we are not a created creature of an Almighty God, everything else I will teach you today is a waste of my time and yours.

If we are not a created being of an Almighty God, there is no judgment to fear, and there are no rules, laws and commands to follow.

If we are not a created creature of an Almighty God, there is no heavenly afterlife, there is no hell to suffer, we could not reason because there would be no truth to logically reason from and everything would be total and complete chaos and nobody would have the ability to understand that humanity is out of order.

If we are not a created creature of an Almighty God, the world is right, we are wrong and none of us would know the difference anyway.

Since we have been given the ability to know God, it proves that there is a God, and everything I’m going to teach you here this morning is the truth, and it is very important that you understand it to be the truth.

Corruption

Genesis 2:15-17

The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. But the LORD God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”

Genesis 3:1-7

The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the LORD God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”

2 “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. 3 “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’ ”

4 “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. 5 “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”

6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.

Shame! This was something new. If the first man and women had not disobeyed they would not have felt shame. Adam and Eve’s inner eyes were opened to disobedience. This allowed their inner being to feel emotions that they were not aware of until their moment of disobedience.

This one act of disobedience would now sew into the fabric of every human being that was born of Adam and Eve, sin, guilt, shame and death.

Now, if Adam was not the very first man who was the procreator of every other man that has ever lived, what you are going to learn from this point forward is, once again, a waste of time.

Some people hold to the thought that the story of Adam is, let’s say, allegorical at best or on the other side not true at all. Some believe that there were a bunch of Adams scattered throughout the world and that’s how the races came into existence. If you believe in evolution and that man came from a long line of changing species, the story of Adam is not even a good fable.

If you hold to any of these ideas you will find that everything from this point forward is useless because you have no need for a Savior. If all of mankind did not inherit their sin nature from our true father Adam we are not going to need the second Adam, Christ, to be our Savior.

Genesis 3:20-21

Then the man—Adam—named his wife Eve, because she would be the mother of all who live. And the LORD God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.

Three major points are made with this passage. One, Adam was only going to have one wife that would bear him children. Two, all of mankind, every human in existence, would be the product of the first two people Adam and Eve. Three, God set into motion the sacrificial system for the covering of sin. Something had to die in place of the sinful humans so they could live.

What you are seeing here is the establishment of the Creator God’s way of allowing Adam and all of his many generations of offspring to have the ability to relate with their Creator God.

Due to Adam’s sin, all mankind would be born in sin. The only way for mankind to comeback into a right relationship with God was for there to be a blood sacrifice made on their behalf. Something must die in the place of the one who deserved to die due to his/her sin.

Now we were all born in sin because Adam passed his sin onto every human ever born from the beginning. So, we are sinners by our very nature and must have a blood covering to come into right relationship with our Creator God.

Corruption brought forth sin and death. Man sinned and something must die in our place.

Catastrophe

Now, sin had been unleashed in Adam. Sin is nothing more than disobeying God. Although the Law of God or Ten Commandments has not yet been given, Adam had passed his knowledge of God to his family and they should have all been doing likewise.

But the sons of Adam, Cain and Able, their relationship turned to murder due to sin and jealousy.

This sinful and now murderous family continued to grow and before long the whole human race was corrupt and God decided to start all over.

Genesis 6:5-8

5 The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. 6 So the LORD was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. 7 And the LORD said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.” 8 But Noah found favor with the LORD.

Genesis 7:1-5

When everything was ready, the LORD said to Noah, “Go into the boat with all your family, for among all the people of the earth, I can see that you alone are righteous. 2 Take with you seven pairs—male and female—of each animal I have approved for eating and for sacrifice, and take one pair of each of the others. 3 Also take seven pairs of every kind of bird. There must be a male and a female in each pair to ensure that all life will survive on the earth after the flood. 4 Seven days from now I will make the rains pour down on the earth. And it will rain for forty days and forty nights, until I have wiped from the earth all the living things I have created.”
5 So Noah did everything as the LORD commanded him.

For those who believe in a kind and loving God that don’t acknowledge that He is also a holy, just and righteous God, this is very difficult for them to handle.

God was so discouraged by what humans had become that He decided to eliminate them all with the exception of Noah, his wife, his three sons and their wives.

God had decided to recreate the earth and allow Noah and his family to restart the human race.

God saw what happened to humanity when He allowed sinful humans to fill the earth. Now, He would still be using sinful humans from the line of Adam, but this group of humans was at least the product of a righteous man that was willing to obey God.

So everything that was created was now recreated through a catastrophic event known today as God’s Flood in the days of Noah.

If you were to follow the genealogy from Adam to Noah to the date of the flood you would find that man had occupied the earth for approximately 1656 years. You can find this in Genesis chapter 5 and 6.

This catastrophic event in Noah’s day restructured the entire planet. The entire surface was changed. What we know as the continents would have been created by the movement of the tectonic plates. Mountain ranges would have sprung up due to the earth shifting. Fossils would have been created in masses all over the earth. What once was no longer existed and what now is was formed by the catastrophic flood that would have taken place somewhere around 4500 years ago.

I know, this is rather hard to comprehend in today’s world of millions and billions of years ago. But God has placed genealogies in the Scripture than can be followed and dated to tell us that man has only inhabited this planet for a little over 6000 years.

So, Noah and his family began to repopulate the earth.

Confusion

Genesis 11:1-9

At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words. 2 As the people migrated to the east, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there.

3 They began saying to each other, “Let’s make bricks and harden them with fire.” (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.) 4 Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.”

8 In that way, the LORD scattered them all over the world, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why the city was called Babel, because that is where the LORD confused the people with different languages. In this way he scattered them all over the world.

You must remember that everyone that existed at this time was a descendant of Noah. They all spoke the same language and as a family, they must have been getting along fairly well.

Now God saw that they were doing fine without seeking and searching for Him. Nothing was going to be impossible for them as long as they worked together and got along striving for a united purpose.

Why would God have wanted to disrupt such a fine world order? The people were not seeking for a relationship with Him. Man was able to get along fine without the God who created them. This was not God’s intention. God desired to relate with mankind. He wanted to be their God. He wanted to be their provider and protector. He wanted man to come to Him for their needs and he wanted man to acknowledge Him for all He had done for them.

Man forgot their God so God confused their ability to communicate with one another which left them seeking and searching for life’s answers.

God then revealed Himself to a man named Abram and faith and belief in God was going to be the requirement for man to have fellowship with God once again.

Now, at this point righteousness before God would be a product of believing that God is and following the revelation of God that He was giving to His servant Abraham.

See, Abraham believed God and it was credited to Him as righteousness. The sacrificial system of offering blood for the forgiveness of sin was still in place. But now the only ones who were going to sacrifice properly to their God were those who had received the revelation of God. This is why Abraham becomes the father of our faith.

The blood offering or substitutionary sacrificial system would be shown to Abraham in a mighty way when He was called to sacrifice his son Isaac and then God provided the substitute.

Moses would continue to lead the people in their sacrificial system but they would now come to understand the blood of the lamb for salvation through an event in history known as the Passover.

God was leading His people to the fulfillment of the law’s requirement that was coming in Christ.

Christ

Now, when Christ came into the world it was to be the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.

We celebrate Christmas which signifies the birth of our Savior.

Jesus of Nazareth, born of a virgin named Mary. He was raised in the household of the carpenter Joseph of Nazareth. At the age of thirty He began His ministry.

The virgin birth is far more important than most people realize today. The skeptics try to throw in all kinds of ideas as to how Mary was impregnated so to eliminate the virgin birth.

See, Jesus had to be born of a virgin. If man’s seed was involved in the reproduction of Jesus, He would have been tainted with Adam’s sin. With Adam’s sin in Him he would not have been qualified to be the sinless, spotless or perfect Lamb of God.

So, the virgin birth was the only way for God to bring forth the second Adam.

Now, Jesus ministry was confirmed by God’s priest to the people who we know as John the Baptist. John was the son of the priest Zechariah and his mother was a product of the priestly line of Aaron. John was to be God’s priest and predecessor to the Messiah.

Now John’ calling was to call people to repent of their sins and prepare for the coming of the Messiah.

One day while baptizing in the Jordan River John pointed to Jesus and proclaimed Him to be the Lamb of God that has come to take away the sin of the world.

Jesus was baptized by John then the Holy Spirit descended upon Him and God spoke from heaven that Jesus is His Son in which He was well pleased. Then John said that it was time for Him to decrease in importance and Jesus to increase. Then people began to follow the Messiah.

Now, prophecy had been written that said that Jesus would be rejected and even killed by His own people.

But the ministry would not be detoured.

John 3:16

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
As you can see, Jesus has a purpose and a plan and He is now on His way to fulfilling the mission for which He was sent into this world.

Romans 5:12-18

12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. 13 Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break. 14 Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come. 15 But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. 16 And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. 17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.

18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.

So as you can see we are all condemned due to Adam’s sin. We all have the ability to receive eternal life because of what Jesus has done or us.

This does not mean that everyone is right with God due to Jesus’ work.

God has not changed His requirement for a blood atonement to cover our sin and a life lived by faith and belief in Him.

Why would a person who does not believe and does not want to follow the ways of God and does not desire to live in the presence of God care about a relationship with God or even want Him to save them through His Son?

As I am trying to point out most people do not understand the revealed plan of God or what God has done for them through Christ, they just want a good afterlife just in case it turns out to be true.

Cross

So, how did God complete this sacrificial work for us?

He allowed His Son, the Lamb of God, to be crucified upon the altar of the Cross for us.

1 Corinthians 1:18

The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.

For the person of the world who does not know what God has done for us at the cross, they find the whole plan of God to be foolishness. But for those of us who have come to understand the revelation of God’s salvation, We can see the power of the Cross unto our salvation.

Philippians 2:5-8

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Do we have the same attitude that Jesus had? Are we willing to sacrifice our self for others that they might come to this great and wonderful salvation that has been graced upon us by the Lord?

Most of us are so ashamed of the Gospel. We’re so ashamed of what Jesus has done for us. At least I’m guessing that we are. I mean, we certainly aren’t taking the message to the people around us.

Maybe it’s because the world’s philosophies and teaching has so overwhelmed us that when we try to come out with our beliefs and teaching, we feel, well, inferior or insignificant.

Do we really believe that the message from God is greater and more powerful than anything the world has to offer?

The Scriptures teach us that we should be ready at all times to express to others the hope we have in Christ. We do though need to know how to lead others to this wonderful salvation. The problem we face is it’s not as easy as telling someone to accept Jesus and all will be well. A person needs to understand what they believe so that which they believe can be defended and shared.

So how do we know all of this is true?

Jesus rose from the dead! It was prophesied, and fulfilled.

We know that it’s true because had there been any sin or disobedience in Jesus at all, death, by law, would have been able to keep Him. Jesus overcame death and the grave because His life and work were pure and undefiled, He had no sin in Him and death could not hold Him. So, the resurrection stands at the exclamation point at the end of God work of salvation. Now, “It is finished!”

Hebrews 10:19-22

19 And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

I firmly believe this is one of the reasons the mission of the church is not being fulfilled. We don’t understand the message well enough to truly share it in its fullness.
The seven C’s is a great way to lead people to the full message that God has worked out for us.

So what is the seventh C?

Consummation

This is the finale. This is the final act. This is the result of God’s work from beginning to end. This is the signed and sealed contract between God and His people. This is the final curtain closing the work of salvation. We’ve reached the home stretch and the finish line is in sight. The exit strategy or the endgame has been reached.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4

3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. There is no other to reach the Father God because this is the way God has made for man to come to Him. Any other way or path will not consummate the marriage of the Lamb with His church.

Revelation 21:3-8

3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

8 “But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Revelation 22:1-20

Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations.

3 No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. 4 And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. 5 And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever.

6 Then the angel said to me, “Everything you have heard and seen is trustworthy and true. The Lord God, who inspires his prophets, has sent his angel to tell his servants what will happen soon.”

7 “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book.”

8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw all these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me. 9 But he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers the prophets, as well as all who obey what is written in this book. Worship only God!”

10 Then he instructed me, “Do not seal up the prophetic words in this book, for the time is near. 11 Let the one who is doing harm continue to do harm; let the one who is vile continue to be vile; let the one who is righteous continue to live righteously; let the one who is holy continue to be holy.”

12 “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”

14 Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life. 15 Outside the city are the dogs—the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie.
16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this message for the churches. I am both the source of David and the heir to his throne. I am the bright morning star.”

17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life. 18 And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book. 19 And if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.

20 He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!”

Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

I Want To Know CHRIST! Part 9 of 9

Philippians 3:10a (Amplified)

For my determined purpose is that I may know Him that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly,

Last week we looked at the divinity of Jesus Christ. Last week we realized that Jesus was not the same as the normal human walking the earth. Jesus claimed with His words and actions to be far more than just a human being.

This week we will step a little father into who Jesus really is. Jesus is about to be taken captive by the Temple Guard, He will be tried and then turned over to a battalion of Roman soldiers. The Temple guard was sent out with Judas by the leading priests and the Pharisees. They were going to bring Jesus back to be tried and crucified.

Jesus knows that this is the end of the ministry. Jesus knows that this is the end of His earthly life. We live in a world where people cling to life with everything they have. Not just their own life but also the lives of those around them. Jesus has settled in the Garden of Gethsemane the events that will lead up to His death.

I remember hearing a story about Martin Luther King Jr. He was told that his life was being threatened and maybe he should quit all the public speaking and just sit back and leave it to others. His response was to continue. He believed that to stop was to already be dead. He could not quit and live with himself so he continued.

I don’t want to raise Martin Luther King Jr. to a divine status and I surely don’t want to lower Jesus to the level of a man with an important cause. But Jesus knew the other side of all that was happening. Jesus knew He had an eternal home with the Father. Jesus knew that He had come into this world to die. God was not going to take the one born of a virgin and just lift Him up out of the world. Jesus was going to have to die to get out of the world in which he was born into.

Not everyone is so accepting of death or even the circumstances of life that surround them. Some people desire to fight against reality.

John 18:10-11

10 Then Simon Peter drew a sword and slashed off the right ear of Malchus, the high priest’s servant. 11 But Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back into its sheath. Shall I not drink from the cup the Father has given me?”

Jesus tried to calm Peter. Jesus was prepared to face whatever came next. Peter wanted to manipulate the circumstances. He wanted to fight against what was happening in his midst.

Now, aren’t you thankful today that Jesus, just like you and me, experienced being born and faced death just like we will? We may not have to face a violent death. We may not have to face a death due to others hatred of us or what we represent. But then again we may have to face a grueling painful death. We don’t know how we are going to die but we must be prepared as Jesus was to drink the cup the Father puts before us.

Far too many fight the Father’s will. They do not accept the reality which they find themselves. This leads to a lot of hurt and pain. Not just for self but for those around us like Malchus.

Today we will be taking communion. Remembering what Jesus did for us but I want everyone to think about the cup that was put before Jesus. Are you willing to drink of the cup God places before you?

Keep that thought and let’s look at Jesus trial before Pilate.

John 18:33-34

33 Then Pilate went back inside and called for Jesus to be brought to him. “Are you the King of the Jews?” he asked him.
34 Jesus replied, “Is this your own question, or did others tell you about me?”

This is a great question. See, Jesus is making Pilate face what he truly believes.

What do you believe Pilate? Am I the King or are you believing what you have been told? Do you believe that I AM?

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, do not believe upon others words. Figure out what you believe for yourself. Just because you agree with what you’ve been told doesn’t mean you believe it.

Let’s get back to Pilate and Jesus conversation.

John 18:35-37

35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate asked. “Your own people and their leading priests brought you here. Why? What have you done?”
36 Then Jesus answered, “I am not an earthly king. If I were, my followers would have fought when I was arrested by the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.”
37 Pilate replied, “You are a king then?”
“You say that I am a king, and you are right,” Jesus said. “I was born for that purpose. And I came to bring truth to the world. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”

Jesus has now claimed to be the King of the Jews. He has told Pilate that His kingdom is not of this world.

Beam me up Scottie this man was born to be a king of a kingdom that is not of this world. What is Jesus talking about? And yet Pilate must have believed Jesus’ words. Pilate did not want to punish Jesus. He had just found himself in a worldly, no win situation.

John 19:4

4 Pilate went outside again and said to the people, “I am going to bring him out to you now, but understand clearly that I find him not guilty.”

Pilate is the Judge. But, Pilate is the judge of the people’s court. He cannot just bang the gavel and say not guilty. He must satisfy the people. Now, the people’s court never judges based upon truth but upon public opinion. Pilate is now bound by the jury of public opinion not upon truth.

So, the people were being roused by the religious leaders and they still wanted Jesus crucified.

John 19:7-11

7 The Jewish leaders replied, “By our laws he ought to die because he called himself the Son of God.”
8 When Pilate heard this, he was more frightened than ever. 9 He took Jesus back into the headquarters again and asked him, “Where are you from?” But Jesus gave no answer. 10 “You won’t talk to me?” Pilate demanded. “Don’t you realize that I have the power to release you or to crucify you?”
11 Then Jesus said, “You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above.

Pilate is lost in all that he is involved in. He doesn’t want to have Jesus crucified but he’s trapped and doesn’t see the kingdom that Jesus sees and can’t let go of his earthly power.

Then the leading priests cried out with a statement that will forever judge them.

John 19:15

15 “Away with him,” they yelled. “Away with him—crucify him!”
“What? Crucify your king?” Pilate asked.
“We have no king but Caesar,” the leading priests shouted back.

Could you have imagined the sword that was driven through Jesus’ heart? Not the one that will draw water and blood but the one that pierced His whole life and ministry. The sword that cut off all those who do not believe in a kingdom whose King is Jesus Christ. We have no king, we have no authority higher than our earthly king.

Many people today don’t believe they have any authority higher than themselves. I am the king of my own destiny. I am lord of my own life. I am ruler of my own domain. I am the master of my own existence. I am creator of my own reality. I am the director of my own path. I am maker of my own outcome.

We are still crucifying Jesus today with our words and actions.

Now, Pilate did something that really upset the religious leaders.

John 19:19-22

19 And Pilate posted a sign over him that read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” 20 The place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and the sign was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek, so that many people could read it.
21 Then the leading priests said to Pilate, “Change it from ‘The King of the Jews’ to ‘He said, I am King of the Jews.’ ”
22 Pilate replied, “What I have written, I have written. It stays exactly as it is.”

So the King of the Jews is put to death. He dies an innocent man. He died because the world at large could not keep Him and continue to lord over itself. If Jesus is King we must revere Him as King. If we don’t desire Jesus to be King, Who then will we submit to?

Man will raise up a king or standard for which he is comfortable following. To submit to the true King and Lord calls for us to adjust to Him. We want kings and leaders that will adjust to us. We want the power and control. We do not want to be lorded over and commanded. So, we raise up kings and leaders that will work for us.

Now, Jesus is King, Lord, Ruler, Master, Head and God come in the flesh. He cannot be lowered by man. He cannot be killed off and ignored. Jesus is above death. You may not want Him as Lord, you may want to crucify Him as an imposter, but He will rise above you killing Him to be your Judge.

John 20:1-9

Early Sunday morning,‍‍ while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. 2 She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and I don’t know where they have put him!”
3 Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see. 4 The other disciple outran Peter and got there first. 5 He stooped and looked in and saw the linen cloth lying there, but he didn’t go in. 6 Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, 7 while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying to the side. 8 Then the other disciple also went in, and he saw and believed—9 for until then they hadn’t realized that the Scriptures said he would rise from the dead.

Could it be that the Apostle John spent three years of his life following Jesus, becoming Jesus best friend , and he not believe in who Jesus really was?

John knew Jesus Christ. Our text for this series says,

For my determined purpose is that I may know Him that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly,

John knew Jesus. He was intimately acquainted with Jesus. He understood Jesus. He recognized Jesus. He had seen the wonders of Jesus’ person. But something happened at that tomb. John believed! John now had an assurance of belief that he did not have before the resurrection.

See, when Jesus died on the cross it was over. The ministry ended. The following ended. The miracles ended. It seemed as though everything that had happened was a waste of three years of life.

But the resurrection was proof positive that everything was true. That nothing in all of this world could stop Jesus and His Kingdom.

Jesus’ death was not the end but a whole new beginning for that which was to come.

We’ve been reading the first part of Philippians 3:10, today we finish the verse.

and that I may in the same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection which it exerts over believers, and that I may share His suffering as to be continually transformed in spirit into His likeness even to His death,

John now believes. Not just in the person of Jesus Christ, John believes in Jesus Christ. From this point on John will be continually transformed in spirit into the likeness of Jesus Christ. John knows who is King. John knows who is Lord. John knows who has all authority. This will affect the way John lives the rest of his life.

Aren’t you thankful today that Jesus rose from the tomb to sit on the throne in heaven to insure everything He came for is true and that we will have life beyond this world?

John 20:30-31

30 Jesus’ disciples saw him do many other miraculous signs besides the ones recorded in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may believe‍ that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life.

As we prepare to take communion this morning, God’s will is that you know Jesus Christ. God’s will is that you believe in Jesus Christ. God’s will is that you find your assurance in His work on your behalf.

John 6:47

“I assure you, anyone who believes in me already has eternal life.

Eternal life begins now, not sometime in the future when we pass from this world into another realm. The resurrection prove all this to be true.

So, before we pass out the elements to remember what Jesus has done for us, I’d like to hear from you. Does anyone what to stand and testify, remembering the work of Jesus Christ in their own life this morning?

Freaks of Nature

The definition of a “Freak of Nature” would be one who is markedly unusual or abnormal. They would be an oddity to what is normal. They would be spectacles in a circus or sideshow.

Why is it that we raise up the “Freaks of Nature” and make them the standard for life?

I was talking with a young lady about beauty, looks and bodily image the other day. It was quite an eye opener to her when I called today’s icons of beauty “Freaks of Nature”.

She, like most, would think of something ugly, deformed and abnormal as a freak.

She, like most, had a hard time comprehending Kate Upton, Candice Swanepoel, Gisele Bundchen or the rest of Victoria’s Secret crew as “Freaks of Nature”.

Now let’s put this into perspective.

These fore mentioned women are some of the most beautiful creatures on the earth. They go way beyond the normal and would be considered oddities or abnormal. We have made a sideshow out of these oddities due to their stunning appearance.

A company like Victoria’s Secret searches the world over for the most stunning women they can find. They hire make-up artists, hair stylists, fantastic camera and light crews. Then they take the pictures through a process of airbrushing and touch up before presenting the pictures to the world. Now, the world of women, for some reason, believe that this is what normal should look like.

Why is it that we compare ourselves to the “Freaks of Nature” and then feel as though we do not measure up?

Most women are not born with the appearance, that we have declared beauty, of these women. They do not have the make-up artists, hair stylists, personal trainers and clothing experts to enhance their beauty into the next dimension.

You know what really bothers me? These “Freaks of Nature”, after all that they do and have done to them, still do not look good enough for the picture show.

How hard would it be on your self-image to know that in all your beauty and work, the editors still had to touch up your imperfections before showing your picture to the public?

I wrote this because of the depressing effect the world of beauty has bestowed upon the normal, average, person, especially young ladies, in our world. We look at the icons of beauty as the image of what we should all look like instead of the “Freaks of Nature” that they really are.

Hey guys, that are comparing your gal pals to today’s icons of beauty, the pictures you are seeing are not real and the women in the pictures are oddities, they are abnormal, they are “Freaks of Nature”.
